Fraudulent Email and Text

Can you tell if that “phishy” email or mobile text is real or if it’s a scam?

To guard yourself against phishing, please note:

  • Alterna will NEVER send you an email or mobile text asking you to share your sensitive banking information.
  • Phishing scammers are criminals. They will try to trick you into giving up sensitive information through messages with questions like:
    • "Click here to get your refund"
    • "Your account is out of date"
    • "Here’s your invite to our new video calling service!"

When you click on these links, phishing scammers may install malware on your computer or mobile device.

  • Through email messages and mobile texts that point to fake websites, scammers attempt to fool you. The communication may look real, with bank logos, links and branding, but it is not.
  • Stay vigilant and remember, if you get an offer that appears to be too good to be true – it probably is.
